The Right Attorney Doesn't Just Solve Problems—AV Theron & Swanepoel Attorneys Helps You Avoid Them

Few people wake up expecting to need an attorney.

Yet some of life's biggest moments begin with an important legal decision. Buying your first home. Starting a business. Planning your estate. Getting married. Navigating a divorce.

Losing a loved one. Protecting your children. Resolving a business dispute.

These are defining moments that can shape your future for years to come.

When they arrive, having experienced legal professionals by your side is more than reassuring - it can change the outcome. At VCN News, we believe strong communities are built on trusted local professionals. That is why we are proud to partner with AV Theron & Swanepoel Attorneys, one of the Vaal Triangle's longest-established and most respected legal practices.

Established in 1967, the firm has been serving the people of the Vaal Triangle for more than 58 years, helping generations of individuals, families and businesses navigate life's most important legal decisions with confidence. Their reputation has not been built overnight, but through decades of consistent service, practical legal advice and a genuine commitment to the people and businesses that make this community what it is today.

The legal world has changed dramatically since 1967. Laws evolve, regulations change, businesses face new challenges and families encounter increasingly complex legal matters. While the landscape continues to change, one thing has remained constant - the value of experience. That experience is what clients receive when they walk through the doors of AV Theron & Swanepoel Attorneys.

Whatever Life Brings, Experience Matters

Every legal matter tells a different story. For one client it may be the excitement of buying a first home. For another, it could be preparing a Will that protects generations to come. It may involve starting a new business, resolving a commercial dispute, navigating a difficult divorce or administering the estate of someone dearly loved…

Some Days Are Diamonds, Some Days Are Stone - Life has a way of reminding us…

Life has a way of reminding us that not every day is meant to shine. Some days we wake up with a smile on our faces and a lightness in our hearts. Everything seems to fall into place. We laugh a little louder, appreciate the little things, and feel as though the world is on our side.

Those are our diamond days.

But then there are other days.

Days when getting out of bed feels harder than usual. Days when our hearts are heavy, our thoughts are tired, and nothing seems to go according to plan. We may smile at people, carry on with our responsibilities and tell everyone that we are fine-but deep inside, we are simply trying to get through the day. Those are our stone days. And perhaps the greatest lesson life teaches us is that both kinds of days are necessary...

Not the kind that covers our face, but the invisible one that hides our emotions, our fears, our pain, and sometimes even our true selves. How many times have you smiled while your heart was breaking? How often have you said, "I'm fine," when you were anything but fine?

Thirty Years, One Phone Number, and a Legacy Built One Brick at a Time: Tinus and Jaco Lotter

Thirty years ago, a young man fresh out of school stood at the beginning of a journey that would shape not only his own future, but eventually leave a lasting mark on South Africa's paving and civil infrastructure industry.

In 1994, Tinus Lotter completed matric. By 1995, while many of his peers were still trying to figure out what direction life would take them, he had already taken his first steps into entrepreneurship. Looking back today, three

decades later, he can still vividly remember those early years.

"There were times when all I had was my car," Tinus recalls.

For the first year or two, there was no company vehicle, no fleet, no large contracts, and certainly no shortcuts. He simply could not afford a bakkie. Every opportunity had to be earned the hard way. In an era long before social media and digital marketing, advertising meant getting out into the community and meeting people face-to-face.

Tinus personally distributed pamphlets by hand, driving from area to area in his car, determined to build something of his own.

"It wasn't easy then, and business is still not easy today," he says.

Yet as the conversation unfolds, what becomes increasingly clear is that Tinus never viewed hardship as a reason to stop. Instead, he viewed it as part of the process.

One phrase emerged repeatedly during our discussion and seemed to define much of his journey:

"Where there is a will, there is a way."

That mindset was not developed overnight. Long before he started his first business, Tinus was already learning the value of hard work.

At just sixteen years of age, he began working, helping to build boats while also raising broiler chickens from one day old through to six weeks of age before selling them to customers...

THE VAAL IS HURTING: To the Person Who Feels They Cannot Go On — Stay

Somewhere in the Vaal Triangle today, a person may answer, “I am fine,” while quietly fighting the greatest battle of their life. It may be the father who has lost his income and no longer knows how he will provide for his family, the mother who carries everybody else but feels that nobody is carrying her, the young person who believes one failure has destroyed an entire future, the business owner who can no longer see a way out, the teenager being bullied, the employee drowning in debt, the widow overwhelmed by grief or the person whose depression has convinced them that their family would be better off without them.

They may still go to work. They may still smile for a photograph, answer messages, make jokes, attend church, help their children with homework and tell everyone around them not to worry. Yet behind that ordinary appearance may be a person who is exhausted from trying to survive inside their own mind.

This is why the Vaal Triangle must begin talking about suicide differently—not through gossip, graphic details, photographs of death scenes or speculation about why somebody died, but through compassion, prevention, honesty and the repeated reminder that help is available...

Suicide is touching too many homes across the Vaal Triangle. This is not an article about how people died. It is about the moment before that decision, the lives that may still be saved and the hope that can still be found when someone believes there is none left.

Six senior captains. Two Embraer jets. One packed Cape Town stadium. And a manoeuvre so spectacular that the world could not stop talking about it. Now, as questions mount over safety, perhaps South Africa should be asking something different: did we witness recklessness — or one of the finest displays of aviation precision this country has seen? There are moments that disappear almost as quickly as they happen, and then there are moments that become part of a country’s folklore. On Saturday, 29 August 2026, South Africa may very well have witnessed one of them…
